Drum Lessons
All styles of playing, all age groups, from beginner to advanced levels.
Steve has been teaching drum kit for over 25 years, working with students of all ages and ability levels across a wide range of musical genres. Whether you're picking up sticks for the first time or looking to sharpen existing skills, lessons are structured around your goals.
His teaching philosophy centres on technique and body mechanics — building the physical foundation that allows you to play confidently and sustainably across any style.
What to Expect
Custom Approach
Every student is different. Lessons are tailored to your goals, musical interests, and current ability — whether you want to play in a band, tackle musical theatre, or just nail a groove.
Technique & Body Mechanics
A strong technical foundation prevents injury and unlocks potential. Steve focuses on proper posture, grip, stroke mechanics, and how the body interacts with the kit.
All Styles Welcome
Rock, pop, jazz, funk, musical theatre, metal — whatever style excites you, lessons can be built around it. Understanding multiple styles makes you a better drummer in all of them.
Reading & Theory
Music reading and rudiments are available if you want them. Many students working toward auditions or tertiary study find this invaluable, but it's always optional.

What should I bring to my first lesson?
Just bring a pair of drumsticks. After your first lesson, Steve will recommend a practice pad if you don't have a kit at home.
I've had lessons before — what should I bring?
Bring any books, handouts or materials from previous lessons so Steve can get a sense of your background and pick up from where you left off.
Do I need my own drum kit?
No — the studio has two acoustic kits set up. A practice pad at home is recommended between lessons, but not required to get started.
